An article where I state some assumptions that I make when writing my fiction
Science Fiction allows us to examine something with some of the variables changed in a way that is not presently possible in real life. The key to it’s believability is if even if it seems impossible now, is it within the realm of probability that future events might unfold so that it seems possible then. Agreement as to the way things work now, is very important before any evaluation of whether an extrapolation is possible.
The rest of this is my understanding of these concepts. While there may be errors found in my statements, I present it not as fact for fact sake but for understanding of how I think and understanding my fiction.
An over simplified analogy is to think of ourselves as living computers. The body and Brain are hardware and the mind is software and data. Just to make things a little more difficult, add a metaphysical element to that system. Allow that intelligent life is too unique to totally cease existance when the container of life (the body) dies. To the Hardware and Software add a ‘Soul / Spirit” which is more than the sum of the data the brain holds which is the basis of being intelligent life.
Body Sex consists of the physical manifestation of sex differentiation upon the body such as sex chromosomes, genitalia, and other effects brought about by puberty when it goes thru it’s natural course.
Brain Sex consists of the brain’s being differentiated by it’s actual structure as to being male in physical structure or female in physical structure
Gender consists of the influence by the Sex of the Brain on how it thinks and perceives.
Gender Expression is Interacting with others in a manner consistent so that they perceive the person to be identified or identifying with a particular gender
A TransWoman has a Male Body Sex, and a Female Brain Sex and internally they possess Female Gender and a Female ‘Soul/Spirit”. Their Gender Expression is Male until a crisis/awakening occurs which compels a physical transition which permits a Female Gender Expression
An OrdinaryWoman has a Female Body Sex and a Female Brain Sex and internally they possess Female Gender and a Female Soul/Spirit. Their Gender Expression is Female. An artificially imposed and long term Gender Expression of Male will lead to dire consequences unless they return to a Female Gender Expression
A TransMan has a Female Body Sex and a Male Brain Sex and internally they possess Male Gender and a Male “Soul/Spirit” Their Gender Expression is Female until a crisis/awakening occurs which compels a physical transition which permits a Male Gender Expression
An OrdinaryMan has a Male Body Sex and a Male Brain Sex and internally they possess Male Gender and a Male Soul/Spirit. Their Gender Expression is Male. An artificially imposed and long term Gender Expression of Female will lead to dire consequences unless they return to a Male Gender Expression
In “Gerrold Vs. the Good Ol’ Boys” I postulate a condition (for a supposed OrdinaryMan) for my fiction where a tumor mimics Male Brain Sex in a person with Male Body Sex and an internally maintained Male Gender and Male Gender Expression.. After intensive medical probes uncover this condition, a surgery occurs giving the person a Female Brain Sex along with their Male Body Sex which changes the internal gender to female and is diagnosed as a TransWoman. In the chapters going forward, I hope to examine the process where the inertia of male gender expression collapses under it’s own weight having nothing to support it with the new brain configuration only being capable of female gender and becomes most comfortable with a female gender expression.
As I stated before, these concepts are my take on them. While what I feel about something has little relevance to the real world, or to some one else’s fictional universe, it’s ‘gospel’ in the fictional universes of my making. I hope this adds to your enjoyment of my stories.
